Who we are

VYCA is a non-profit contemporary cultural initiative established in 2011 and based in Athens, Greece.

The idea for VYCA emerged from our observation of a very limited presence of children and families in major art exhibitions and international art fairs in Greece, despite their significant cultural and educational value.

This led us to develop a practice initially focused on children, youth, and families, with the aim of integrating contemporary art into everyday cultural experience from an early age.

Within this context, we are among the first Greek non-museum organisations focused exclusively on bringing children and families closer to contemporary art through original educational programmes and participatory approaches.

Over time, our scope expanded to include adult audiences, workshops, lifelong learning initiatives, senior audiences, and research-based activities such as art seminars, happenings, and public events.

We develop educational programmes and collaborations through an open and flexible approach, without fixed assumptions about how art should be taught or experienced.

Over the years, we have developed a broad network of collaborators, including museum educators, artists, architects, and special education professionals, among others.

Seeing the world anew

A core principle of VYCA’s educational philosophy is the rejection of fixed, age-based assumptions about learning.

We do not approach education through segmented programmes that assign specific content to specific audiences. Instead, we understand knowledge as fluid and transferable, capable of resonating across different ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience.
